OzLabs is a group of Free Software developers and their associates, working on Linux on PowerPC and other associated projects.
As part of his day job, Joel Stanley works on evolving the Open Source firmware that runs on Power8 processors even before Linux starts. Joel says the cool part of of his job is working on some of the largest single computers ever built. As a hobby, he uses his skills for projects such as flying high altitude balloons, building radios with amateur radio operators, and HDMI FPGA video capture for recording conferences.
Joel says he was attracted to Base64 by its interesting environment. “It’s a great looking venue with all the essentials: a good coffee machine and a fast network connection,” he says. “I was also attracted by the a chance to mix with other tenants who are working on interesting projects.”
