Blockstream is a company that delivers leading-edge technology enhancements to Bitcoin, including Bitcoin sidechains and the Bitcoin Lightning Network.
Sidechains create safe environments for innovation with bitcoin technology, allowing for variants which use real bitcoins safely. Lightning is a new project which allows near-instantaneous bitcoin transactions as a caching layer on top of the normal bitcoin infrastructure: it promises to bring massive-scale microtransactions to bitcoin.
Blockstream software developer Rusty Russell, who’s also involved in a loose Open Source hacker collective called OzLabs Adelaide, says he was attracted to Base64 by its community. “It’s the promise of a place where sharp developers work on hard and interesting problems,” he says. “The place also has an architecture designed to nudge people towards communication and collaboration.”
